Grisaille Cast Study

This was a project for an introductory oil painting course. A simple but demanding task to recreate plaster cast pieces. It forced me to appreciated all those little details that help our eyes perceive roundness, light, and shadow. While I never thought I'd miss staring so intensely at a piece of plaster under a spotlight - the sore neck and tired eyes were ultimately worth it to step back and see the illusion of a million little brushstrokes.
